Five Beauty Reviews: June

Beauty Favorites June 2021

While the list of beauty products I can review ad nauseam is long and impassioned, I thought I would make things easy on myself — and you, dear reader — by starting with five that I have been enjoying lately.

I haven’t been wearing a lot of makeup since COVID befell us a year ago, so my focus has been mostly on hair and skin. The products I listed below have been in heavy rotation helping me feel fresh and beautiful during the hot and humid summer days in Brooklyn.

Sun-blocking setting spray

On days when I will be spending a lot of time in the sun but still want to look put together, I love Supergoop Defense Refresh mist. It’s the perfect way to reapply SPF throughout the day without messing up my makeup.

Hydrating, high coverage sunscreen

I’ve tried so many sunscreens at this point I can barely keep track, but I keep coming back to LaRoche Posay Toleraine Double Repair SPF 30. It’s super hydrating (which my dry skin appreciates) and it melts right into my face without leaving a sticky or powdery finish.

Reliable Natural Deodorant

It has been a challenge to find a natural deodorant that actually stifles my sweat and body odor. After many tests that turned out just so-so, I’ve repurchased this Native Deodorant several times in the scent Lavender and Rose. It works just as well as the stuff I used in middle school, but is aluminum-free has a much more subtle fragrance.

Stain-Free Self Tanner

Let me introduce you to my new obsession: Tanologist Self Tan Mousse! I started self-tanning this year after seeing one of my favorite bloggers rave about it, and I couldn’t be more pleased with the results. I like that my ghastly-pale skin can fake a golden tan without sun damage, and Tanologist’s clear mousse formula means that none of my clothes or furniture are in peril of orange stains while it cures.

Workable hairspray

1-800-Hold-Me by IGK has everything I want in a hairspray. It’s not sticky or crunchy whatsoever; on days when I properly style my hair, it holds everything in place while still leaving everything flexible enough to restyle. I am not typically a fan of coconut smells, but this hairspray’s scent is no run-of-the-mill coconut; it’s more like an expensive, tiny dessert you’d eat on an island somewhere. Plus, it leaves a pearl-like sheen on your hair — a must-have on days where my hair looks dull and dry.

Let me know if you try any of these products, or if there are any you recommend I try! I am planning to post more reviews on a rolling basis, and I shamelessly love to buy, test, and play around with beauty products. Drop me a line below:
